T-Mobile Arena embodies the elements of its host city. With the bustling nightlife of the Strip to its east and the mountains and sprawling desert to the west, T-Mobile Arena is the perfect venue to stand in the heart of Las Vegas.
An enormous mesh wall with a bright magenta, 9,000-square-foot LED display overlooks the area between the New York-New York and Monte Carlo casino resorts. The LED board represents the city’s energy, while the building’s metallic skin resembles the burnt golden hues of the desert that the town is built on. The north and east sides of the venue act as a gateway to the city while the south and west are designed to reflect the hot Vegas sun.
The arena adapts to seat anywhere from 12,000 to 20,000 people depending on the event, while 44 luxury and eight event-level suites remain constant to provide the extravagant experience that guests expect when visiting Las Vegas.
As the saying goes, “Las Vegas wasn’t built on the backs of winners.” But with over 217,000 square feet of CENTRIA products—including over 136,000 square feet of MetalWrap Long Span Series backup panels—T-Mobile Arena is backed by winning metal wall products.
The multi-purpose arena required a building envelope that could not only withstand the hot desert weather, but also provide exciting aesthetics for the wide variety of events the facility hosts, from the biggest names in music, major UFC and boxing events and basketball games. But there was even bigger news on the horizon for T-Mobile Arena, which is now home to the Golden Knights, the NHL’s newest franchise.
MetalWrap Long Span Series insulated composite backup panels feature a single component design that replaces typical multi-component assemblies used for complex backup walls. The MetalWrap system provides thermal, air, water and vapor barriers in a composite assembly to maintain comfortable atmospheres in events from the Country Music Awards to the NCAA PAC 12 men’s basketball tournament.
Designed with CENTRIA’s innovative advanced thermal and moisture protection (ATMP®) building envelope technology, MetalWrap backup panels feature integral attachment systems—including the MR-100 and MR-300 rail systems as well as integral clips, pintles and/or masonry anchors—for metal, terra cotta, brick facades and metal rainscreens, making it the perfect choice for mixed-medium exteriors. MetalWrap Long Span is available for projects that require backup panels in spans greater than 24 inches and can be installed both horizontally and vertically.
Architects paired the innovative backup panel system with custom bronze shingles by dealer/installer Crown Corr, Inc., creating a building envelope that provides the best in performance and aesthetics.
CENTRIA’s Versawall insulated metal panels in Flaxen Gold complement the custom bronze shingles, while providing advanced thermal and moisture performance in a single component. Additionally, the facility showcases over 27,000 square feet of CENTRIA’s EcoScreen perforated screenwalls creating the fascinating mesh façade to control light passing through the curtainwall exterior.
Pairing sustainable metal products and green design practices was vital to achieving LEED Gold status. In fact, T-Mobile Arena is the first sports and entertainment stadium in Las Vegas to attain LEED certification, the preeminent rating system for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
“T-Mobile Arena’s LEED Gold certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” says Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) said, “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and T-Mobile Arena serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
